Descrizione

È grigio-verde ma biancastro ventralmente con 15 barre trasversali scure di forma irregolare su ciascun lato del corpo che sono più chiare al centro. Strisce scure sono presenti anche sulla guancia e sulla prima pinna dorsale altrimenti uniformemente nerastra . Anche la pinna pelvica è a strisce. Le pinne dorsali contengono da 9 a 12 spine e da 25 a 27 raggi molli mentre la pinna anale ha da 22 a 24 raggi molli. La mascella raggiunge o appena oltre la parte anteriore dell'orbita. Questa specie raggiunge una lunghezza totale massima di 25 cm. Hanno grandi occhi, il modello di colore e le profondità di cattura riportate sembrano dedurre che questa specie batidemersale abita in acque più profonde rispetto al suo congenere Pagetopsis macropterus.

Diffusione

Ha una distribuzione circum antartica sulla piattaforma continentale da 200 a 800 m.
